That’s probably something he picked up in the U.S. Army, where he served as a Lieutenant and Combat Engineer in Vietnam. He brings his military precision, strategic thinking and never-give-up attitude to every legal challenge, with a particular focus on municipal and business law, including tax-exempt bond financing and general obligation infrastructure financing. Businesses and local governments from across Virginia have found out first hand that he’s a good guy to have fighting for their interests. Having lived abroad and traveled extensively, Sam has a facility for languages and cultures that commends him to foreign business ventures. That’s why foreign businesses use him. His experience and intuition allow him to anticipate issues before his clients are confronted with them.

Sam received his B.A. degree from Davidson College in 1970, earned his law degree from Washington & Lee University in 1975, and joined Glenn, Feldmann, Darby & Goodlatte the same year. He is a member of the Board of Governors of the Local Government Section of the Virginia State Bar, the Local Government Attorneys Association of Virginia, and the National Association of Bond Lawyers.
