Glenn, Feldmann, Darby & Goodlatte is pleased and honored to announce that Robert E. Glenn was awarded the Frank W. “Bo” Rogers, Jr., Lifetime Achievement Award during the Roanoke Bar Association’s 2009 Gala and Law Day Celebration. The Frank W. “Bo” Rogers, Jr., Lifetime Achievement Award is an annual award that “recognizes an outstanding lawyer who embodies the highest tradition of personal and professional excellence in Southwest Virginia.”
Spanning more than fifty years, Mr. Glenn’s legal career has and continues to personify excellence, service, and community.
Mr. Glenn has been admitted to practice before each of Virginia’s state courts, the United States District Court for the Western District of Virginia, the United States Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States Tax Court, and the United States Supreme Court. He is a permanent member of the Fourth Circuit Judicial Conference and has been a member since 1968. Mr. Glenn was President of the Roanoke Bar Association during the 1980-81 bar year. He has been a member of the Virginia Board of Bar Examiners since 1982 and has served as its President since 1993. He has been a Fellow with the American Bar Foundation since 1994 and a Fellow with the Virginia Bar Foundation since 1998. He is a member of both the American Bar Association and the Virginia Bar Association, as well as a member of the Virginia State Bar.
Mr. Glenn has served our legal community and the community at large in many roles. He has served as Chairman of the Roanoke City Republican Party, Chairman of the Roanoke Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross, President of the Roanoke Kiwanis Club in 1966, member of the Board of Visitors and Rector for Radford University, member of the State Council of Higher Education, President of the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce and member of the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities.
Mr. Glenn has also served as a director for many organizations including Sutton Development Corporation, United Way of Roanoke Valley, Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce, Roanoke Regional Economic Partnership, Roanoke Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross, Roanoke Bar Association, Shenandoah Club (where he served as President from 2001-2002), Mill Mountain Theatre, Roanoke Symphony Society, and the Roanoke Advisory Board of NationsBank of Virginia, N.A.
Mr. Glenn retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Air Force Reserve where he served as a Judge Advocate from 1953 to 1957. Since that time, Mr. Glenn has been with Glenn, Feldmann, Darby & Goodlatte and each of its predecessor firms.
On December 2, 1982, the Supreme Court of Virginia appointed Mr. Glenn to the Virginia Board of Bar Examiners. In 1983, Mr. Glenn’s first full year on the Board, 1,073 persons took the bar examination. In 2008, that number had increased to 1,995.
Mr. Glenn was elected President of the Virginia Board of Bar Examiners on March 1, 1993, and has continued to serve in that position since then. He is the third-longest serving President.
Bob Glenn has been a part of the Virginia Board of Bar Examiners for over a quarter-century and has led the Board for the past 16 years. To date, he has participated in licensing 29,667 new Virginia lawyers.
