January 25, 2012 - James and Sandra Ramaker already grow grapes on farmland near Smith Mountain Lake. They hope to use the Bedford County property to distribute wine as well.
Five acres of grapes and the building that will house the proposed winery are already in place. Adding three parking places would be the only change.
But to make and sell wine on site, the couple needs the land rezoned and a special use permit from county officials.
